Inspirations From the Cancer Journey...
Connections to Life is an extension of Rite of Passage Cancer Project. We are an organization whose mission is to be a resource of support, comfort, education and inspiration to cancer patients and their caregivers by producing books, films and other support materials that assist in the achievement of the highest quality of life possible. Our documentary film, From the Mouths of Babes, was created to support and comfort families and loved ones coping with childhood cancer and to serve as an educational tool for medical caregivers. The film demonstrates, through 4 exceptional children and their families, the power of the human spirit to overcome and transcend the devastation of a life threatening disease.
Cancer patients have something to teach us about our own mortality and can inspire us to view the disease not just of the body, but perhaps as a journey to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our humanity.
In the past 25 years, cancer has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Each year, millions are diagnosed with the disease. Scientific research has made great headway in discovering potential causes, diagnosing and treating the disease. However, thanks to the new pioneers in behavioral and complementary medicine including Drs. Bernie Siegel, Norman Cousins, Herbert Benson, Deepok Chopra, Larry Dossey and others, we now can document the value of the mind/body connection and the importance of "quality of life" in promoting healing of the body, mind and spirit. These values have been brought to the forefront of mainstream awareness, and what were once revolutionary medical practices, are now common and widely sought after. Each Connections to Life project focuses on how patients use their powerful human resources - irrespective of the "medicines" - to go to the core of what it is to be human and thrive.
