The 4 Exceptional Children
|
|
From the Mouths of Babes highlights 4 exceptional children and their parents who shared their joys, fears, pain and victories. They opened their lives to us to help others to better understand what to expect and not to feel alone. Here are the 4 very special kids as they were at the time of the making of the film. |
Chelsea,
Age 6
Diagnosis:
Leukemia
Bone
Marrow Transplant Recipient
Status:
Remission |
|
Chelsea
Iasselo lives in Tarreytown, NY, with her parents Cathy and Peter
and two sisters Cailyn and Cassidy. She received her bone marrow
transplant during the summer of 2000. Her baby sister, Cassidy,
was the donor. Chelsea is currently cancer free and is still in
the recovery period from the transplant. The next year is crucial
as her new immune system grows and develops. Her mom refers to
Chelsea as a "reincarnated" Gilda Radner. Her humor,
inteligence and personality are a continual joy. |
Victor,
Age 9
Diagnosis:
Non Hodgkins Lymphoma
Bone
Marrow Transplant Recipient
Status:

|
Victor Prieto lives on Staten Island with his parents Naomi and
Victor and two brothers Hector and Uriel. He was diagnosed in
April 2000. After several successful chemotherapy treatments Victor
received his first stemcell transplant in January 2002 and will
be receiving a bone marrow transplant using marrow from an unrelated
donor in the spring of 2002. Victor loves baseball and has already
won two trophies in his community league. We call Victor our super "star". You'll see why. |
Isaiah,
Age 11
Diagnosis:
Leukemia
Bone
Marrow Transplant Recipient
Status:
Deceased |
|
Isaiah Desrosiers died peacefully on November 15, 2000 with his
parents Dan and Ginger by his side. To all who knew him, Isaiah
was a beacon of strength, acceptance, courage and wisdom beyond
his years. The family, which resides in Benton, ME, includes a
brother, Joshua, and two sisters Liana and Carissa and a menagerie
of farm animals. Isaiah only knew life as a cancer patient since
he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of two. His life, however,
was never diminished by the disease. He was surrounded by a loving
family and community. Isaiah continued throughout his life to
inspire everyone who crossed his path. We were blessed to know
him and to have spent precious quality time with him in his last
months. |
Lauren,
Age 10
Umbilical
Cord Blood Transplant Recipient
Diagnosis:
Myelodysplasia
Status:
Cured |
|
Lauren
McKenna lives in Cary, NC, with her parents Eileen and Dennis
and her younger sister, Brooke. She received her umbilical cord
blood transplant at Duke University two years ago. Her remarkable
recovery is a testament to the lifesaving state-of-the-art technology
using the umbilical cord of newborns. Lauren has a no-nonsense
delightful "star quality" and charisma. She is a fighter
and a miracle. |
